Features:
How not to admire the jewel of Dell as the Ultrabook XPS 13 is a visual and technological success! Its high-end design includes an aluminum shell and a carbon fiber chassis to combine lightness, design, and reliability.
Resolution: On the practical side, the touch screen provides intuitive navigation and 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) for images of remarkable precision. Its IPS technology gives you viewing angles close to 180 ° as well as a brilliant rendering of colors!
CPU & RAM: If a beautiful setting has never made a jewel, Dell has chosen to take care of the envelope as much as the technology it contains. You will find a powerful Intel Core i7-8565U clocked at 1.80 GHz (4.60 GHz in turbo mode) coupled with 16 GB of RAM for mobile fluidity at all times.
Storage: Thanks to 1 TB storage in PCIe SSD format, you can count on launches of Windows 10 or all your software in just a few seconds. More than comfort, essential.
The system has management and security features that will make your life easier. Tips and alerts let you know what’s wrong before it happens and what tools you can use to fix it when it happens, the Dell Backup Tool provides flexible, automated backup and restore to keep your files secure photos, music, and files.
It can be adjusted to make it go at full speed or it can be adjusted to always remain cold and silent.
Connectivity:
On the left side, we have two Thunderbolt 3 compatible USB Type C equipped with a single shared PCIe-x4 connection; if you use the two ports simultaneously, the bandwidth will, therefore, be divided between the two.
The right side instead houses the 3.5mm jack, an additional Type C, this time “only” 3.1 Gen 2 and the microSD card reader. All three USB-Cs charge the notebook and by using the two Thunderbolt 3 as video outputs it is possible to connect this XPS 13 to two external monitors. We do not have any USB Type-A but in the package, we find an adapter that allows you to convert one of the three Type C to this standard.
- Bright screen, with impeccable colorimetry
- Ultraportable very compact
- Balanced performance
- Very good autonomy
- average speakers
2. LG Gram Thin and Light Laptop Under $1500 (Recommended)
Key Specification:
- Processor: 1.8 GHz Intel Core i7 (8th Gen)
- RAM: 8 GB DDR4
- Storage : 256 GB SSD
- Display: (1920 x 1080)
- Graphics: Intel UHD graphics 620
- Screen Size: 15.6 inches
- Weight: 2.4 pounds
- Battery Life: 16 hours
About :
The LG Gram is a slim laptop that still manages to fit in a nice 15.6-inch screen. It's certainly a rarity, but the combination of portability and a spacious display should particularly appeal to photo editors.
The LG Gram is a new i7 model, and it is equipped with several sockets, including one for the latest Thunderbolt cables and although it only weighs 2.4 Ibs.
Features:
Build Quality: The weight is in fact well distributed throughout the Gram body and thanks to this it can be opened with one hand without tipping forward. To have such a light laptop LG had to compromise on build quality . The materials used do not give the same feeling of strength and rigidity as aluminum laptops. The case is entirely made of magnesium, but to the touch it looks very similar to plastic. This alloy is not easily scratched, but it is not very rigid, in fact the display cover, the palm rests and the keyboard flex.
Despite the size, this is a truly portable laptop. When you take it in your hands you are surprised by its lightness, and the maximum thickness is about 2 cm. All this does not translate, however, into excessive fragility. The carbon frame gives more guarantees than plastic, although, in the central part of the computer, the structure seems a bit introflected under pressure.
Display: The display is big and very bright, with a resolution, double compared to Full HD, of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 16:9 aspect ratio. Therefore, the vast majority of HD video content currently available on streaming platforms can be viewed without sacrifices and there is ample space to work with any program. A defect? It's not touch, but is it really a limit?

RAM & Storage: The equipment under the hood is no different. The processor is an 8th generation Intel Core i7-, supported by 8 GB of DDR-4 RAM and a 256 GB solid state drive. The processor is not new (the tenth generation is already on the market), but according to the unanimous opinions of experts and customers, it beats competing speeds with a more recent "engine".
Battery: Despite one of the brightest screens on the market, this is a laptop with record autonomy. It can work for 9 hours without problems and, if you do not subject it to particular consumption peaks, you could use it for a day without having to worry about recharging.
Trackpad: The trackpad is large and pleasant to the touch and with the complicity of Windows it never happens that you exchange the involuntary touch of the palm of your hand for a touch of the fingers. In conclusion, this is an excellent product. He is not the latest arrival, but for us he still deserves the top of the classification.
Connectivity:
The battery charger has a proprietary socket, but the possibility of regenerating it via the USB C input on the left side is also contemplated. And we come, in fact, to the connections provided on the chassis, among which nothing essential is missing: Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.0 type A, HDMI, headphone jack and even the MicroSD card slot.
- Remarkably light despite the large screen
- Fingerprint reader makes login easier
- A heavy battery can last most of the day
- The nanocarbon and magnesium body is extremely resistant
- Glossy screen
3. Lenovo Yoga C930 Best Convertable laptop Under $1500

- Processor: 4 GHz Intel Core i7
- RAM: 12 GB DDR4
- Storage : 1TB SSD
- Display: (1920 x 1080)
- Graphics: Intel UHD graphics 620
- Screen Size: 13.9 inches
- Weight: 3 pounds
- Battery Life: 12 hours
About :
This ultrabook convertible into a premium tablet impresses with the quality of its speakers and its case but a few points are behind such as the quality of the screen or the limited performance over time in the face of demanding use.
Also Read: Best 2 in 1 Laptops Under 300 USD
Features:
Display: Lenovo offers for its Yoga C930 two 13.9 inch IPS touch screens: a Full HD panel (1920 x 1080 px) and a 4K UHD panel (3840 x 2160 px), the latter being installed on the model under test. If the screen quality is quite good, the tester expected something else from a premium computer in late 2018 because the brightness is rather low (max. 300 nits). In addition, the backlight was not uniform with a slight upward leak, but it is possible that this problem is specific to the model tested.
Performances: Architectured around a recent generation Quad Core i7 Kaby Lake Refresh, 12 GB of RAM and a 1 TB NVMe SSD, the tested model has the most muscular configuration. Overall, the ultrabook handles daily tasks and multitasking perfectly, with no latency and good CPU usage. Things change when Yoga is faced with demanding work (assembly, calculation) for an extended period. Indeed, Lenovo has chosen to restrict the processor (limited TDP) in order to keep the temperature and noise at reasonable levels. Result, the Yoga C930 totals scores a little below the competition with equivalent configuration, without this having visible repercussions during everyday use. The same observation holds for the integrated CPU + GPU operation,
Keyboard: The stroke of the keys is short and too superficial with an actuation point not always clear, which led him to some unfortunate typing errors. Note however that the tester is picky and that the overall quality of the keyboard is satisfactory, without bending on the base. The keyboard is also backlit with white and is not very quiet. As for the touchpad, it is a good size, comfortable to the touch and works well in everyday use, between tapping and multi-touch gestures. The built-in mouse buttons are a bit stiff and imprecise, but no more so than on an average laptop. A reader.
Audio / Speakers: Audio immersion is particularly satisfactory for a convertible ultrabook. The sound level is high (around 80 dB) with clean, punchy sounds at all levels. Having speakers placed in the hinge allows you to always have at least part of the sound coming straight towards you, without any surface bouncing it.
Battery: The battery capacity may have been reduced to 60 Whr and despite the 4K screen which weighs heavily on the autonomy, the Yoga C930-13 is doing pretty well with about 8 hours in web browsing with active Wifi.
Connectivity:
The connection has not changed and remains very minimalist, without HDMI or card reader. There is a standard size USB 3.1 port and two USB Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 3, which should cover all needs even if it involves the purchase of adapters. As new for this generation, the included Active Pen 2 stylus receives storage and charging space inside the case itself, a real plus that probably explains why the battery is smaller now.
- The speakers built into the 360-degree hinge
- The sliding shutter to hide the webcam when not in use
- Battery life and performance are excellent
- An included stylus and real storage
- Backlit keyboard is comfortable
- No option for an independent graphics card
- No HDMI jack or memory card slot

The best of Apple in this Macbook Air from our comparative test has a 13.3 ”panoramic screen. The structure is made of aluminum, which makes it particularly light with its 1.35 kg. Ultra-portable and ultra-thin, it takes up very little space in a bag.
The entry-level 13-inch Macbook pro is a wonderful laptop that has everything you need. The display is still bright, almost twice the brightness of the last gen model. Specs: It has a 128 Gigabyte hard drive. Its 8 gigabyte RAM, Intel HD 6000 graphics card and 1.8Gigahertz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor make it the laptop with the best performance of this comparative test.
Speaker: The speakers on this laptop are speechless. The Apple claims "room-to-noise" with the MacBook Pro. Granted, computer speakers may not be a replacement for studio mixers, because of the physics, but the Pro is better for all but the most sought-after projects.
Speaker: Apple claims the 10 hr battery life is really true due to the laptop being around 9.2hrs while surfing the web and watching movies.

The Apple MacBook Air has two USB ports, and a Thunderbolt 2 port. It is equipped with WIFI and Bluetooth for connectivity.

How to Choose The Best Laptops Under 1500 Dollars | Ultimate Guide 2024
How to choose your laptop? There are many criteria for selecting a laptop and we offer our advice to guide you in your purchase according to your budget and your needs. Our guide will allow you to better understand the functioning of a laptop PC to choose a computer that suits you.
How to choose the processor, the RAM, the screen, the graphics card, or even the SSD, we explain everything to you in this ultra complete guide to know how to choose your laptop in 2024.
Laptop Type
Ultrabook
The ultrabook is a thin, light, and handy notebook, and is the ideal choice if you have to carry your PC with you always. It features high-performance thanks to an energy-efficient medium-high range Intel Core processor, an SSD disk, and a long-lasting battery. These features make the ultrabook very useful if you have to use the PC for your business meetings: the device restarts in a few seconds, quickly exiting Stand-By mode.
Convertible notebooks
The convertible notebooks are laptops convertible into tablets, thanks to a touch screen that can be rotated or detached from the keyboard. The advantage is obvious: if you buy a product of this type, you can choose to carry a complete PC with you, or you can decide to keep only the screen in your bag, for example, if you have to scroll through your documents or read your emails.
And not only! You can also use your convertible to watch movies and TV series in complete serenity: just lock the screen in the opposite direction to that of the keyboard and enjoy your favorite programs!
CPU/ Processor
First, you need to look at the CPU, which is the processor. This component is the "brain" of the device and, therefore, the speed of performance and the ability to respond to a request depending on its power. CPU speed is measured in GigaHertz (GHz): the higher the GHz, the better the PC performance.
RAM
You must then consider the RAM, the memory that the PC can keep until its shutdown. It is measured in GB and determines the performance of your Notebook: the greater the GB, the better the notebook performance.
I advise you to avoid computers with less than 8 GB of memory as they would not be able to fully meet the most common work and leisure needs. The only exception is small convertible computers (up to 10 ″), which have more limited usage scenarios and therefore can also work well from 4 GB.
Some notebooks have free slots for installing additional RAM banks without voiding the warranty.
Hard Drive/ SSD Storage
Then keep in mind the Hard Disk, the memory space you need to store data on your PC for a long period. Even the capacity of the Hard Disk is measured in GB: in this case, however, the memory space varies according to subjective needs and can still be expanded with external peripherals (external Hard Disk or USB systems, in addition to the clouds). If you are looking for high performance, it would be better to find a laptop with an SSD disk, much faster.
Currently, in the shops, there are notebooks equipped with a mechanical hard disk (HDD), laptops equipped with SSD drives (mainly ultrabooks), and notebooks that mount both types of units. If you don't know what I'm talking about, SSD drives are solid-state drives that stand out from the mechanical ones because they're much faster, quieter, and drop-resistant.
Their main flaws are the price (they are still quite expensive compared to traditional HDDs) and the fact that they have several writes beyond which they stop working, although it is difficult to reach this limit in the standard use of a computer. which SSD appears.
In any case, try to prefer the 7200 rpm HDDs over the 5400 rpm ones as they guarantee a higher speed than the others (even if it is difficult to find 7200 rotations per minute hard drives on medium-low end laptops) and SSD drives that have at least 256GB of space for data storage (unless accompanied by a mechanical disk).
If in the datasheet of a laptop you find wording such as "PCIe SSD", "M.2 SSD" or "NVMe SSD" it means that the SSD is connected to the computer with a system other than the classic SATA 3 and therefore guarantees a higher data transfer speed (beyond the theoretical 6Gbps, I also told you about it in my post on the best SSDs). Another important thing to know is that on cheaper laptops storage can be entrusted to eMMC drives and not to SSDs. EMMCs are flash memories similar to SD cards that have lower performance than SSDs.
GPU/ Graphic Card
You need to consider the video card, the component that displays the data sent from the PC and therefore allows you to interact with the system. There are two types of video cards, those with shared memory, called integrated ones, and those with dedicated memory.
The former uses part of the system's RAM, consumes less current, and generates less heat: they are the best choice for daily activities and entertainment. The latter instead have a dedicated RAM, and are therefore suitable for advanced graphics processing needs, but consume more current. The larger the GB of dedicated RAM, the higher the video performance.
If you intend to use the notebook only for office work: writing documents, surfing the Internet, and anything else, you can easily settle for the integrated video cards (which use the computer's RAM and can guarantee good performance even for viewing HD movies and playing medium-quality games).
If you intend to play the latest generation of video games at maximum resolution, you must work with 3D graphics or you need to create professional-quality video montages oriented on high-end computers with dedicated video cards (e.g. NVidia or AMD), which can rely on their RAM.
Display:
a good graphics card if not paired with a good display loses much of its usefulness. Before buying a notebook, therefore make sure that its display has a sufficient resolution for the activities you intend to carry out (e.g. to enjoy a Full HD movie to the fullest you cannot take a laptop with a resolution of 1366 × 768 pixels). There are also laptops equipped with displays of over 1080p, in these cases, we must carefully evaluate the ability of the battery to "hold" such high resolutions.
Battery:
assessing the performance of laptop batteries is not easy. Their autonomy is not fixed but varies according to the operations that are performed on the computer and the hardware characteristics of the computer itself. The values you can rely on to get an idea - at least for guidance - on battery life are the milliampere-hour (mAh) and the number of cells.
The mAh indicates the battery power, so the higher their number and the longer the battery life. The cells, on the other hand, are the individual elements of the battery capable of generating electrochemical energy, and their number is not strictly linked to that of the mAh. In some cases, the power of the batteries is expressed in watt-hours (Wh) and volts (V). To go back to the value in mAh you have to divide the watt-hours by the Volts and multiply by 1000.
Ports:
notebooks can be equipped with different types of inputs and outputs. USB ports can be standard size (full size), mini or micro. They are also divided into USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and USB Type-C with increasing data transfer rates for each of these standards. The Type-C is also the most modern USB connector available on the market: the connector is more advanced, more compact, and is also reversible, so the peripheral can be inserted in both directions and work in the same way.
If a laptop only has USB Type-C ports, you can use an adapter to continue using your old "Type A" sticks. Finally, USB 3.1 and Type-C are not the same: the first wording indicates the speed class, the second the type of connector. Other ports that can be present on notebooks are the HDMI ones that allow the connection of the computer to the external monitors (they can be full size, micro or mini), the Ethernet ports for the connection of network devices (modem, router, etc.), the Mini ones DisplayPort for connection to external monitors, those for SD cards and Thunderbolt ones that allow you to connect your computer to various types of peripherals (monitors, hard drives, etc.) ensuring a very high data transfer speed.
At the moment Thunderbolt ports are still not widespread and are mainly found on Apple computers. those Mini DisplayPort for connection to external monitors, those for SD cards and that Thunderbolt that allow you to connect your computer to various types of peripherals (monitor, hard disk, etc.) ensuring a very high data transfer speed. Optical Drive
Nowadays more and more laptops sacrifice the optical drive on the altar of the subtlety of design. If you still make extensive use of CDs and DVDs, before buying a notebook check that it has a special reader/burner or you can buy an external burner.
Wireless technologies - all laptops are compatible with standard 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks, while not all offer support for faster 5GHz networks. Also, it is good to check that the notebook you intend to buy has support for Bluetooth (to connect devices such as wireless keyboards and mice or share files with smartphones, tablets, etc.) and - even if less important - to Miracast technology, through which you can send audio/video content to supported TVs.
Quality of materials
especially if you will use your new notebook as a primary computer for work, before proceeding with the purchase you must carefully evaluate the quality of the computer itself. Believe me: it is worth spending 100 or 200 euros more to have a robust and comfortable notebook rather than being thrifty and then finding yourself fighting every day with an excessively "plastic" computer that overheats too much, has an uncomfortable keyboard, or a trackpad that malfunctions. With this, I don't say that you have to buy a top-of-the-range device, but if between two mid-range computers there are two with identical technical characteristics and one of these while costing a little more seems more robust and refined in design, take that. You will not regret it.
Keyboard layout - it may seem trivial, but if you buy a laptop online you have to be careful also about the layout of its keyboard. Many computers are imported from abroad and have a QWERTZ (German) or AZERTY (French) keyboard instead of "our" QWERTY. Besides, if you are used to writing in the dark it is good to check for a keyboard backlight system.
FAQs
Is a Full HD screen good?
Yes, knowing that 1080p content is more and more present, this definition allows you to make the most of it. Note, however, that the smaller the screen size in inches, the smaller the display of text and interface elements. Full HD (1920x1080) in any case brings greater clarity than a lower definition with a similar screen format. This gives a smaller and sharper display on a 13 inch Full HD than on a 13-inch WXGA HD (1366x768).
Is a very high definition UHD / 4K screen good?
Laptops offering a very high definition screen (higher than Full HD) are available on certain high-end models but they remain confidential.
Content, software, and Windows are now fully compatible with a 4K definition. In practice, this type of screen allows you to enjoy a sharper and more precise display, whatever the zoom level thanks to the Retina principle, namely using several pixels for a theoretical pixel of the display element. Thus, on a portable PC, a UHD screen of 3840x2160 pixels will offer a useful display surface identical to that of a Full HD screen. Simply, the feeling of sharpness will be greater.
It is up to you to see according to your needs but we advise you for the moment to stay on a Full HD panel which is suitable for the vast majority of needs. UHD screens are certainly more comfortable but they consume more, which generally implies a lower average autonomy of 2h or even 3h compared to the same configuration in Full HD. A 4K panel also requires more resources that can introduce micro-lags under Lightroom or equivalent software where the display needs to be refreshed very often (during adjustments to the sliders in development mode in particular).
Should I choose a laptop with a dedicated graphics card or graphics solution integrated into the processor?
If you want to play or you use software exploiting the graphic capacities (ex: Adobe Premiere Pro), opt for a dedicated graphics card. Otherwise, a graphics solution integrated into the processor may be sufficient, in particular for viewing photos or videos.
I want to play but also benefit from several hours of autonomy, what do I choose?
In this case, we recommend that you opt for a laptop with a graphics card and a graphics solution integrated into the processor, equipped with NVIDIA Optimus technology. Be aware that the autonomy also depends on the other components of the PC, and of course the battery. Therefore, choosing in parallel a low consumption processor and a computer with a high capacity battery, for example, is a relevant choice.
I regularly use Photoshop software, is a dedicated graphics card necessary?
Photoshop does not require a dedicated graphics card, even if a few filters can be used from time to time on the graphics card. For other software capable of exploiting GPU acceleration, a mid-range card will be sufficient for the majority of users. Typically, a GeForce MX250 will already allow you to save a few seconds on computation times.
Is a graphics card required to connect an external display?
In theory, no. An integrated Intel HD620 graphics chip is sufficient to connect an external screen to your laptop and thus benefit from a dual-screen solution. Provided however to be satisfied with an office/web use. If your use requires more power like those mentioned above, a dedicated graphics card is essential.
Be careful, however, if your external monitor displays a UHD (4K) definition, a dedicated graphics card with at least 4 GB of dedicated RAM is recommended, even for a priori not very demanding uses.

Keep in mind that even with good maintenance and upgrades, a laptop's performance may still decline over time due to advancements in technology and the demands of new software. Therefore, it's important to also consider whether the laptop will still meet your needs and expectations 10 years from now.
Is A 10-Year-Old Laptop Worth Keeping?
Whether a 10-year-old laptop is worth keeping depends on several factors, such as the laptop's condition, its capabilities, and your usage needs. Here are a few things to consider:
- Performance: A 10-year-old laptop may struggle to keep up with newer software and applications. If you're using your laptop for basic tasks like web browsing, email, and word processing, it may still be usable. However, if you need a laptop for more demanding tasks like video editing or gaming, it may not be powerful enough.
- Condition: The condition of the laptop also plays a role in whether it's worth keeping. If the laptop has been well-maintained and is still in good condition, it may have some life left in it.
