There are teachers who prefer a laptop and those who never work away from their desk but, in my opinion, nothing beats the versatility of a tablet . It is more powerful than a smartphone, more comfortable than a laptop and now all the most important software is touch-friendly. There are many tablets on the market today that allow a teacher to make the most of the latest technologies.
Technology is a driving force in the world of school and allows to open many doors, to prepare students for what lies ahead and not behind. It also speeds up individualized learning. The work of a teacher knows only a teacher. Until a few years ago, technology was only used to assign marks and averages with the electronic register but now everything is different.

Best Tablets for Teachers | 2022 Products Overview
Things to consider
A teacher must always choose a tablet that is able to keep up with the entire school day (and beyond).
You will probably need your tablet for filling in the electronic register, for consulting the circulars and for editing and processing text documents (schedules, class council minutes, disciplinary reports, etc.), so it is essential that the screen is large enough to comfortably view and select the names on the register without risking giving a bad grade to the wrong pupil… it would be embarrassing! At the same time, however, your tablet will need to be light and small enough to fit into a bag or backpack without weighing it down excessively. For this reason I suggest you choose a device with a 10 “screen which, in my opinion is really the right compromise for our needs.
This aspect must always be considered:
- web access: do you access the internet via the school’s wi-fi or do you want to have internet everywhere? In the first case, all tablets on the market are fine but in the second case you will need a tablet with SIM support ( 3G / 4G / LTE );
- do you have to connect your smartphone? then you will need a tablet with Bluetooth;
- do you have to use usb sticks? then you will need an adapter or a tablet with a full size usb port (USB A) that allows you to copy files;
- do you have to connect the tablet to the IWB (multimedia interactive whiteboard)? Then you will need a tablet with video output.
Archiving & Operating System
Memory is never enough. Among researches, summaries, pdfs, digital books, videos and much more, many times the physical GB alone are not enough. Fortunately, cloud drive services come to our aid to expand your space and access your data anywhere. Google Drive works well on both ANDROID and APPLE devices but is more tightly integrated into Android. It is often easier to transfer documents and access the file system on Android but the security is higher on iPad. But you also need to consider whether the tablet has expandable memory (using a microSD card).
On this aspect I will try to objectively illustrate the various features without providing you with a personal suggestion, because the choice of the operating system depends on habits, other devices in your possession and personal preferences. I’ll show you Android, iOs and Microsoft devices… the choice is yours!
Basically, for tablets, there are three options: APPLE, ANDROID and WINDOWS. The choice is not dictated only by the budget but also by the compatibility with the rest of the technology present at home and at school. If in the workplace they mainly use APPLE products, the choice is almost mandatory but ANDROID always amazes for its perfect integration between devices with different technologies.
If you prefer to have full management of everything, choose Android devices.
If you want everything to work logically (but not always efficiently) get an iPad.
Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + LTE
Teachers need to stay connected to the internet, and Wi-Fi isn’t always available. To fill this gap, we recommend tablets with LTE if you are traveling in areas where Wi-Fi is not available to stay connected to the internet.
IPads and Galaxy Tabs have options for the bundled keyboard accessory. If you plan to produce documents and notes to give to your students, an external keyboard will provide optimum efficiency in a laptop-like orientation.
- before buying a tablet, read the reviews and comments of users on online stores;
- daily use, sooner or later, could cause damage to your device. That’s why I personally always recommend buying and using a cover. On the market, for tablets, there are fabric and leather covers with a very professional design;
- pair your tablet with a keyboard. It really represents an indispensable accessory if you want to maintain the right level of productivity.
